Carbon nanotubes are a new and promising class of nanomaterials, which can aid in solving many of the present challenges faced by regular asphalt, such as the rising number of vehicles on roads, growing cargo traffic volumes and axial loads, and climate factors: abnormally hot summers and extremely cold winters. The latter creates a wide range of operating temperatures increasing the intensity and frequency of deformations, pavement damages, etc.
The usage of MWCNT asphalt additives increases the softening point and indirect tensile strength of asphalt and decrease the bitumen penetration. At the same time, the rut depth and low temperature cracking of the asphalt decrease when MWCNTs are added.
