MONBAT Plc. is a fast developing company which manufactures lead-acid batteries for various applications. Its products have been present on the international market for more than 50 years. The company’s wide product range includes starter batteries, stationary batteries, leisure, solar, marine batteries, special batteries for military applications (designed to meet both Russian and NATO standards), and locomotive batteries.

Monbat production facilities are located in the North-West Bulgarian town of Montana. The company employes a team of highly qualified experts, which along with the latest technologies and equipment, as well as the constant introduction of resulting innovations, makes it highly competitive on both the local and international markets.

The main activity of Monbat is the production of lead-acid starter and stationary batteries and their after sales maintenance. The company constantly introduces new products to the market. The stationary batteries take a signifacant and constantly increasing share of the total production.

Historical reference


- 1959: established a factory for starter batteries.
- 1965: The factory starts producing starter batteries for military purposes.
- 1983-1986: Re-equipment of the production plant with modern machinery.
- 1998: The factory becomes a private company with Prista-Oil being a majority shareholder.
- 1999: The company is certified for compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001.
- 1999-2000: The company builds it’s first installation for recycling of used batteries.
- 1999-2001: The production plant is re-equipped with modern facilities for manufacturing of aircraft batteries, batteries for locomotives, and stationary batteries.
- 2001: The Ministry of Defence certifies the company for compliance with the requirements of the NATO AQAP-110 standard.
- 2002: Certification of the integrated quality management system, for ecology protection and the safe labor conditions in accordance with the international standards of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
- 2004: The Ministry of Defence certifies the company for compliance with the requirements of the NATO AQAP-2110 standard.
- 2005: MONBAT is awarded a “Golden compass award” from the Ministry of Finance as exporter of the year in the category of Industrial goods.
- May 2006: Re-certification in accordance with the new requirement of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
- November 2006: MONBAT is included in the first de-luxe edition of “Business Superbrands” for Bulgaria.
- December 2006: IPO - 24% free float shares; MONBAT becomes a public company.
- March 2007: MONBAT acquires another battery manufacturing plant in Bulgaria.
- May 2007: MONBAT is accepted as a regular member of EUROBAT.
